Planning on replacing plugs, wires, dist. cap, rotor on V6 with 12500 miles. Should I replace ICM? Any opinion on platinum plugs? Thanks

Save yourself some money. With only 12500 on the clock I would just clean the plugs. Spark plug wires seldom need changing out unless you see arcing when you run the engine sitting in the driveway idling at night. The ICM is susceptible to corrosion damage so cleaning it up and putting fresh dielectric coating on is a good idea. And the cap and rotor also corrode so they could be checked and replaced if necessary.
Does the car run now? If it runs smooth and does not have any bad traits I would not bother changing anything. These cars were all designed to go 100,000 miles without having to replace anything to be able to be certified for emissions standards.
If the car has been sitting for a long time most of your problems if you have any will be in the fuel tank. Rotted hoses, stale or varnished gas can really ruin your day.------------------ 86 GT built 2.2 ecotec turbo rear SLA suspension QA1 coilovers on tube arms

If you do have to change the plugs, I use Bosch platinum plugs in all my cars, and trucks, and never have to change them again. They're rated for 100.000 miles, and I believe that from experience...

I would trust a used (proven) ICM over a new one ...... also, many 2.8 owners have had trouble with newer design spark plugs and have returned to the original copper ones for best performance. I think they are Delco R42TS

Just in case that might not be entirely clear to anyone... yes, dielectric grease is good to use on the ICM electrical connection, but proper heat sink compound is what is required between the ICM and the base of the distributor.

Stay with the copper plugs. You do not need platinum plugs in the 2.8.
