what can be left off the 3.8sc (Page 1/1)
ttt123 MAR 06, 11:13 AM
Hey guys, can anyone point me to a thread or comment on what all can be left off the series 2 3.8sc motor? I rebuilt the motor with xp cam, intercooler, ported everthing, all the good stuff and I've seen a few pictures of 3.8's with a very clean look. some on this forum couple on that old site Fast fiero (if I remember right) and just curious what can be deleted with out hurting anything.

sorry feel like this is a newbie question and probably getting some eye rolls but just want to bounce it off those who have done it and this site is the go to site for the 3.8sc now. I just ordered some zzp fuel logs to help clean it up as well.

thank you
Brian

With a tweak to the tune you can get rid of the EGR valve and the restrictive catalytic converter. Like the catalytic converter it is completely un-necessary. All the EGR valve does is blow dirty exhaust into the intake manifold eventually making your nicely cleaned parts filthy by loading them up with dirt and crud.

Leave off the supercharger and put a turbo on it. Then you don't need a muffler either.

That's the way I run my setup. No problems in the last two years. I see no advantage of allowing the PCM to control the BCV, unless of course if the PCM can detect if you a running regular gasoline. I don't believe that there is anything in the program that would set such a command.

For the boost control solenoid, do you mean hook it up to vacuum, or hook it up to the intake manifold so that it sees boost as well?

great info guys, thank you. I do have a stand alone harness that will be easy to run and make look it clean. I just want to avoid all the clutter IF POSSIBLE and make it look clean. I will look into the stuff you guys mentioned (not sure what all the meanings are) and identify them on the set up and take off.

I can do the physical build of any motor with my eyes closed but this part of the motor.. the wires, hoses, tuning stuff... I have just never been able to comprehend it. I've tried and tried and for some reason.. mental block for understanding all that stuff... embarrassing.

I already have a desk top tune from sinister and after its all up and running I plan on taking it to him and have it fine tuned.

thanks so much forum, the other sites that used to talk 3.8 motors... pretty much dead. pennocks members have so much knowledge on this engine and some seriously long time members who have seen it, done it and share it... you rock!!

also got my fuel logs in from ZZP Saturday
