running rough (Page 1/1)

I have had a full tank of fuel in my GT 3800sc for about 3 years. It has been sitting inside the shop on the lift. I can get it to start and run--sort of, but I have to keep milking the throttle. When I put it up three years ago it was running fine. Any ideas?

Gas is stale. (way past "use before" date )

Pump it all out, refill with fresh gas.

Can I gradually add the stale gas to the fuel in my Silverado? It has a 30 gallon tank. If not, how do i dispose of it?

I've never disposed of stale gas any way other than simply adding to fresh gas. Never had problems.

I looked up how to get rid of old gas and they said to take it to a waste disposal. $80! I can't help but think 2 or 3 gallons of gas in my big silverado wouldn't hurt it. Now I need to find something to store it in!

Could I just run a hose from the fuel pump to the container or should I use one I stick in the gas cap?

Easier said than done.

Just connect 12v to the fuel pump terminal and pump it into a couple of large jerry cans. However, as soon as the gas flow shows any sign of slowing down, cut the power. You don't want the fuel pump running when there is no gas left to cool it.

That would not be a problem.

Pump it out as Patrick suggested. That works well - done it myself.
Then dump 5 gallons of fresh gas in so you can get it to the station to top it off.
