Welp...

I have gone and done it again. i reacquired the engine from this build:

http://www.fiero.nl/forum/A...0502-2-023474-6.html

Went through it and freshened it up and checked the block for cracks. all checked out good. reassembled it and waited for the stock 87 DIS engine with more that a couple hundred thousand miles on it to give up the ghost. it did, and i went about swapping them.

learned a couple new things that i had not ever experienced before: it is physically possible to blow the oil filter off of the engine, and there are different length bolts that hold the intake on.

relief valve on the high volume oil pump failed shut, and pumped up enough pressure to separate the filter from its threaded perch. last intake manifold bolt that is inline with #4 intake valve is just a touch shorter than the rest. if you put the wrong bolt in, it can hit the pushrod and stick it. sounds an aweful lot like a collapsed lifter and a dead hole.

kinks worked out. engine running and in service. not nearly as fast as the original stroker should have been, but most certainly spirited... aluminum flywheel makes it sound like it has more overlap at idle, and wraps up substantially faster.

and, car still gets almost 30 MPG on the highway (29.6 MPG)

life is good.

Nobody can stay away forever, lol. I had been looking forward to seeing some numbers from that stroker build back then.

I just hope you're traveling with a fire extinguisher now.

I've got an Indy I need to put an engine in, and I'm really torn between going 100% stock and building a stroker for it.
