I found that I need a new trans. seal for my '87 GT auto. I know that the axle has to be removed to replace the seal. In your opinion(s) should I replace the original axle with about 125K miles with an aftermarket unit, or reinstall the original part. Some people are with the mind set that aftermarket parts aren't as good as originals. Any thoughts are appreciated and which brand seal and axle should I look at if replacement is advised. Thanks again for your input.

If the boots are good and the joints have no radial play, its good. Reuse it.

Can reused axles if they don't have problems. Besides above Seal can dig a groove in an axle.
See my Cave, Axle Make sure whatever won't hit the boot to remove them.
But note... New seal in 100K plus mile auto trans may still leak. Because bearing behind them is worn and axle moves more beyond seal design spec. Axle Bearings are not easy to replace by DIY and most shops. Even w/ right tools, may not come out and big headaches when true.------------------ Dr. Ian Malcolm: Yeah, but your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn't stop to think if they should. If your bearings have too much play GM made an axle bearing stabilizer kit for the TH125 transmission.
I used them on my Getrag that had leaking seals and it has worked good so far, about 3,000 miles. I found the kits on Ebay. Part numbers for the kit are 8643931 or K75125.

If the original is still good, keep it. The aftermarket ones are notoriously terrible. Check condition of the boots and clamps.

Even if boots are bad... for Fiero, likely rest of it is good. Try getting new boots when dead. Fiero axles doesn't bent like FWD cars and many times keeps a lot of grease in and crap out even w/ torn boots.

These should work better then most others because has a sleeve for inner race. Others don't have that and many users ruin the inner CV because CV Metal isn't harden to run as a part of roller bearing there.
Think is/was picture(s) of results w/ cheap units w/o the sleeve somewhere in archives but I'm not looking to find it/then now.
You can't run this on Left/driver side of TH125c and others. No anchor bolt(s) there etc. Is hard to even replace the standard seal there.
