1986 fiero 3800 brakes (Page 1/1)

Hello I am 17 years old and I have a 1986 fiero gt with a 3800s motor in it. I want to upgrade the brakes on it, currently it has the Grand am/Beretta calipers and rotors all the way around. I am planning on putting the bigger master cylinder, which should increase the braking a little but I would like to get some more out of the car. I like the idea of 11in+ rotors and a working e-brake is another major priority. I have seen all sorts of stuff about lebarron brakes but cant seem to put together a full parts list. I am not sure if the corvette brakes would be a better option, but I cant find a parts list for that either. Also Im not sure if the 88 calipers will bolt on either. I am trying to find a good option for under 1k if that's possible. If you guys could help me out or give me any suggestions that would be much appreciated, Thank you, have a good day.

Welcome to the Forum. Can I suggest you look in Ogre's Cave and search for brakes? Lots of good information there about the pluses and minuses of brake upgrades for our cars as well as other useful information.

get a holld of Brian Sanburn or also known as "Sluppy" on facebook. i have used him for my brake upgrades. He will supply parts and a list of all you will need. i have the corvette brakes on my 84 indy, there is a provision for the parking brake, i just need to modify the cables, but they are way better than all else available and worth the swap. i used him as well for my 88 brake upgrade, larger covette rotors and caliper brackets, s-10 booster, it stops really well now. btw, both are 3800, turbo and supercharged

If you're using the Fiero master with grandam calipers, your brakes are not good.
Before replacing everything, install the proper big bore master.
You will be surprised at the difference.

I would not only change the master cylinder, but upgrade the booster to the larger one ( S-10, Rodney Dickman). You'll need both of them if you go to the bigger discs anyway, but you might be surprised at the improvement just with these two mods.

How do your brakes work now? Wheel lockup or any other problems? Does the Ebrake work on your current setup?

The ebrake doesn’t work and it feels like you need to floor it to get it to stop. I definitely need new rear calipers for the ebrake

I have the Grand-am conversion on the front with '85 Cadillac Seville calipers on the back of my '86 GT. The Seville calipers have fittings for the emergency brake. I also have a big-bore master cylinder and S-10 booster with the Rodney Dickman actuator modification. I'm happy with this set up. Feels much better than stock.
