As I have gotten, ahem, older, I need lumbar support when driving. Since the lumbar seats are as rare as hens teeth, I’m wondering if the parts can be had from similar cars and other sources, or be replicated in short runs?

IIRC, the bags used in the Corvette seats of the era are the same,.or very similar to the bags used in the Fiero. I would think that something could be figured out....

Yeah, shortly after posting this I had a text conversation with a fellow Fiero guy who recommended searching eBay for lumbar systems. He suggested that the Corvette, Trans Am Z28 and Cadillac Alante. I would be better off locating an OEM part which may be the same or similar enough to fit.

I want to chime in; 20 years ago, I realized I could use a little better lower back support........I knew there was a zipper at the base of the seat back, so I folded up a towel and stuffed it in there....Still in there and doing a good job- but it's not adjustable.....

Zip down to your local drug store and buy a blood pressure cuff and insert it into your upholstery and pump the squeeze bulb

i did the same probably 30 years ago, but i didn't use a towel, i used a portion of a sleeping bag mat - you know the foam pads 1/2" thick. Its been in there all this time and my seat fits me like a glove. You could put in more and it would look good too. i'm getting the seat reupholstered this week end and i'll ask her to glue it into place.
