I just bought a 1988 Fiero GT with 25K original miles. The temperarture gauge stayed in the lower quarter range and did not get hot. I replaced the temperature gauge sensor and the gauge pegged out. I bought an AC Delco sensor and the gauge then centered. In traffic the gauge would move to just before the red. I then grounded out the single wire to radiator fan and the relay clicked repeatedly and the fan would run and click and run. I replaced the Fan Relay and the fan sensor on the engine. The gauge still almost redlines when stopped in traffic. By the way when the AC is turned on the fan comes on and the temperature centers into the normal position. When the ac is turned off the fan stops and the gauge again moves to just before the red and the fan does not come on. Does anybody have any ideas?
Again, the fan sensor on the engine is new, the fan relay is new and when I grounded the wire to the frame the fan comes on. When in traffic the temperature gauge moves to just before the red on the temperature gauge.
Appreciate any assistance.

Your description sounds like a properly running fiero. If you leave the engine on without moving, the fan would eventually go on. The sensor switch is set for 235 *f. which is really hot. The gauge is not precise, so red or not red doesn't mean much.

I bought the lower temp switch. Thank you for your advice. I will let you know how it goes.
