Hi, I’m replacing the water pump on my 86 gt 2.8, and I’m going to replace timing gasket as well, do I have to drop the oil pan? If I have to drop oil pan what else should I replace.? My oil pressure when idling is around 10psi if the needle is reading correctly, when driving its around 40ish, I read on forums this is probably ok… haven't had any problems. Does anyone think I need a high flow oil pump? … Also is any one in the Cleveland Ohio area that I can chat with on regular basis for repairs ? I appreciate any feedback… thanks in advance.

Greetings and welcome to the forum. I just did that job and yes you have to drop the oil pan, at least with installing a new pan gasket. The seal part that goes between the lip of the pan and the timing cover is so thick that you can't (at least I couldn't) compress it enough by pushing down on the timing cover such that the cover would engage with the two little posts that hold it in place. I can't advise about partially dropping the pan then just tightening back up on the old gasket.
With the cover off you should check on the condition of the timing chain ...

On the oil pump ... I think most would agree to replace it with the standard flow not the high flow. If you've never installed a pump screen onto a pump before there are some good YouTube videos showing how you to do that safely and without having to buy the incredibly expensive installation tool.
