All;
Did a search on the site but did not come up with any info on my question. I am in the final throws of a long running project to install a '96 3.4 DOHC in my Ferrari 308 replica project car. I am using a '91 OBDI harness with EGR delete made many years ago by a member on here. I would go OBDII if I could find a harness but not very plentiful these days up in Canada.
My question today is:
1. Do I need a MAP sensor for this swap? I believe the OBDI ecm's used a MAP vs. MAF sensor. 2. If I do need a MAP, how would I hook it up to the '96 engine? I am not sure I actually have a connector in the harness I have but I must......? 3. If I can still use a MAF per original '96 harness, I would definitely be missing that connector......
Any diagrams or pics would also be greatly appreciated.
Thanks Don

When I did mine, I used a 9396 ECM. That used a MAP sensor so I hooked the sensor up to the vac lines from the evap canister purge solenoid
Info about half way down this page on my web site (search for 9396 to get to the notes about what I did).

The 91-93 OBD1 ECU expects a MAP sensor, so yes, you will need one. Your harness should have the connector for it, it's an inline 3 barrel connector common for MAP sensors and it doesn't fit any other sensor.
The 3.4 used a common MAP sensor that clicked into a cradle which then bolted to the 91-95 intake manifold. You have two options if running a 96-97 intake manifold. You can remove the plug on the side of the manifold and bolt the MAP cradle in there, but only one bolt holes lines up so leave it with one or drill/tap the other. Alternatively, you can remove the MAP sensor from the cradle, and just run a vacuum line to the port on it and leave the sensor anywhere.
You cannot use the MAF sensor, and won't have a plug for it.

Thanks for the replies gents.
I was doing some more digging this morning and it looks like the ‘96 also has a map sensor in the neck of the intake plenum. I searched for map sensor and it came up as a part I recognized and low and behold, it is placed just past the throttle body and already hooked up. Who knew......
I think this dilemma might be solved.....
Appreciate the replies. Great forum here with lots of folks willing to help.
Thanks Don
