I've done several Megasquirt installs on older cars with great success and I'd like to do my '88 Fiero. I have not done a car that had an integrated ECU like the Fiero does so I'm wondering if anyone has done something similar and what did you do to retain the functionality of the gauges, cruise control, and other things the ECU does but still ran the engine off a dedicated standalone?
I have several engine mods I'd like to do and this will make it easier. Plus I just really enjoy the tuning part

The Fiero ECU doesn't do anything except for operate the engine; do as you have always done with your older cars.
Do you not have any Fiero factory service manuals? They contain electrical schematics.

No, I need to get a manual, I just thought I'd start planning early.
Doesn't the Fiero ECU run the speedometer, tach, and cruise control?

Speedo yes, takes the VSS output (4000 pulses per mile, squares it up and divides it by two for the speedo) I think the cruise control is a separate module driven by an output from the speedo on the instrument cluster. I believe the tach comes direct from the ignition module in the distributor.------------------ Anything I might say is probably worth what you paid for it, so treat it accordingly!

Incorrect. That function is done in the instrument cluster, not the ECM.

Every fiero system will work w/o the stock ecm installed.
That is what has made is easy for people to run carbs, other OBDI, OBDII, and other aftermarket ecms.
In stock form with stock ecms and transmissions the VSS wires go directly to the Speedo (no ECM required). However when doing later model transmission swaps with OBDII ecms, then the VSS wires typically go to the ECM first, then from the ECM to the speedo.
