I am trying to put a cost to a Fiero project. 20 years ago, my brother parked a Fiero because a mechanic told him it the head gasket was failing. I am starting to put a cost to the project of putting it back on the road, but ran into deluxe or not deluxe trim. Couldn't find what the difference was. Can someone take a look am maybe tell me? Thanks

Should have included 1985 v6 SE. He gave me that and a black 4 cyl auto. 4 cyl isn't accessable at this time, so no idea what that looks like.

Welcome to the Forum!
What a picture! A lot of Fieros ended up being stored outside in damp conditions, but I have never seen a better mold farm. DeLuxe is the least of your worries. If in fact the head gasket is bad, you have a rusted cylinder or two.
At any rate, a car sitting for 20 years needs a large budget for renovation of just about everything.
Edit: That's a beautiful tree...Is that a Pin Oak?[This message has been edited by Gall757 (edited 12-14-2019).]

I don't know my trees, so you got me there.
This is a budget project if it happens. The 4cyl auto has been inside for 25 years. Literally in a barn. It's not an SE trim but limited parts were actually removed for the red manual v6 Fiero. The end game has the manual trans and better trim/wheels from the red v6 to go to the black 4cyl former parts car. My hope is it is possible to swap the 4 speed trans over to the 4 cyl. Really wanted v6 4-speed, but the goal is to have a road worthy manual vehicle in the end. I plan to do everything myself. I have done a decent amount of mechanical work and work at a collision center. I have a ton of tools and lifts available to use on weekends.
Going off topic, but can the 4cyl mate up to the v6 4speed? That's a hope to make a budget build.[This message has been edited by GRS0002 (edited 12-14-2019).]

The duke and the 2.8 can share transmissions. That'll be the least of your problems if you're wishing to covert an automatic to a manual. It's a lot of finagling.

Yes, the transmission will transfer, but repairing the V6 may be an easier job. Use the SEARCH function to see what must be done going from auto to manual. Be sure to look in the archives when searching.

Not to be a nay-sayer, but as the others have pointed out, this car is likely to have a large number of serious issues. There are still lots of running, reasonably good shape Fieros available on the market for far less money than it would cost to get something like this car going.
Maybe you enjoy the challenge and the actual work- in which case it's a different story. But your time has value- so if you calculate the number of hours and financial investment needed to build a car that "maybe" will be worth $1500, it is something to consider
All the best with your project

My dad and I put a 1964 Mercury Comet that sat for over 10+ years back on the road pretty easily in pretty short order... Brakes, hoses, filters, plugs/wires, exhaust, bushings, belts, etc. I drove that car for years. We did that with some old hand tools, a jack, and 2 jack stands. Figured me and a friend or two with everything available in a collision center could knock out an overhaul of the Fiero on the cheaper side doing everything ourselves in a couple weekends.
Thanks to your voices of reason, I will look further into the project before committing resources. Thanks.

Thank you ltlfrari for the video link. That's great. Watched first one. My car is in much better shape than his at least. Well, my engine likely isn't. [This message has been edited by GRS0002 (edited 12-15-2019).]
