Hey guys, im just looking for the largest size wheels and tires a stock 88 GT suspension can yield. Im looking to see what the maximum 17'' wheels will fit on the front and rear? (17x7? 17x8??) as well as the maximum wheel size for an 18'' wheel. (18x8, 18x9??)
I would like to run a tire size of 225/45/17 on the front and 275/40/17 in the rear...if not that then same sizes but in an 18'' tire. Can someone pls confirm which wheels will fit pls??

I have been contemplating how large a size wheel/tire would fit- but taking into consideration that weight is really important; I took my wheel weights down by 6 lbs on each front and 3 lbs on each rear when I swapped over to 16s from 15s...It made the car feel substantially better.....Accel, braking and also ride and handling.
Get the lightest wheels you can. 17 inch wheels can go from 13 lbs up to 22 lbs....With 22 lb wheels plus heavy tires the car would feel club-footed....
I looked at the width of tires on cars laying good laps at the Ring and VIR.....The 2018 Z06 Vette uses 285 and 335 width tires; The Fiero GT weighs around 2700 lbs vs the Z06 weighing 3600......so using the weight difference, the front 285s become 215s, and the rear 335s become 255s, So I looked up the sizes that would fit into this situation and found these; 225/45-17 tires up front, with 255/40-17 rear using an 8 " wheel width up front and 9" rear.
Obviously, you need the proper offset for both the front and rear wheels.....Somewhere between 40 and 45 MM would be good. You may have to use Coilovers in back for clearance....

I run 17x8 with 45mm offset with 235/40/17 tires on the front of my 88. They stick out at the top of the wheel arch by 5/16" (makes them flush with the belt line molding) and the inside lip of the wheels can scrape the sway bar if it isn't perfectly centered. a 17x7.5 will fit better, but finding a staggered wheel setup for 88s can be very challenging.
In the rear, you can't go any wider than 8" with a 17" wheel due to interference with the knuckle to strut attachment point not clearing the inside of a 17" wheel. To go over that attachment point, you need an 18" wheel.
I run 18x9.5 with 45mm offset with 285/30/18 tires. Just like the front, the wheels/tires stick out about 5/16" and are very tight with some slight rubbing on the wheel well liner at maximum compression. An 18x9 wheel with 45mm offset would fit better, but even then you will have to run coilovers.
