I have been troubleshooting electrical issues on my 85GT and came accross this whirring sound accompanied while clicking in the front end uppon connecting the battery. After allowing it to sit for a moment the whirring noise has not reoccurred. One concern I have is that there is not any coolant in the motor at current and that the water pump broke or something which is why the noise stopped.

Would anyone happen top know what this noise is?

Thanks.

Without even watching/listening to your video, I'd suspect a headlight motor.

I should have also mentioned the whirring sound appears to be coming from the engine bay, where the clicking was the front end

SOLUTION:

I figured out that the sound is the fuel pump.

Now to figure out why the fuel pump is stuck on

Clicking sound up front would probably be one of the headlight motors.....A bad Oil pressure sensor can make the fuel pump stay on....I converted my 85 to an 88 OPS...Much more dependable- no oil leaks either!

To do the conversion, you need a connector that matches the late model sensor and some waterproof splices......

Yes, I think cvxjet nailed it. I had this happen to me. Replaced the oil pressure sender, and problem solved...
