As we move into colder months I tested my heater earlier (88 gt V6). I noticed air coming out the defroster vents on the dash by the windshield but none from the front facing vents. This isn’t normal is it? I still had the slider on “cold” not sure if this effects anything.

You have three options... the defroster vents, the center vents, or the floor vents. Only one can be selected at a time.

How would I get hot air to come out of the center vents? I clicked the heater button on the A/C panel, is there something else I need to click or adjust?

We've now at least established that your Fiero is A/C equipped.
What happens if you push the VENT button?

I own a non-AC Fiero- But every car I have ever owned only puts heat out thru the defrost vents and the floor vents- none thru the air vents facing you. (I will concede that on my van, when I switch from hot to cold and switch the vent from floor to air vents at the same time I get some warm air before the heater section inside the system is closed off(There is a delay in the system switching from heat to cool)
If you have warm air coming out the air vents up high then your feet will freeze- You want the hot air to come thru low down and then rise to warm the whole interior.

I alternate between driving a Fiero (both with and without A/C) and an Elantra. At least one of them will blow hot air out the center vents. I thought they all did ... but I'll have to double-check now. I agree that normally it's preferable to have hot air blowing either down towards one's feet, or up towards the windshield... but I have occasionally directed the hot air out the center vents when I've wanted to thaw my fingers out after scraping ice off the outside of the windows/windshield.[This message has been edited by Patrick (edited 11-10-2019).]

...with engine running. Might as well cover all bases. [This message has been edited by Patrick (edited 11-10-2019).]
