Mysterious Connector and Two Wires Near VSS and Transmission (Page 1/1)

1986 Fiero SE 2.8L V6 4-Speed

I was changing the oil today when I noticed a mysterious dangling connector. It was just hanging there on two wires right beside the transmission box.

Is it just supposed to hang there? Or is it supposed to be plugged into something?

The connector's two wires are about six inches long and emerge from being bundled with two other wires that run to the speed sensor on top of the transmission.

It seems like this connector should plug into a sensor or something right around the transmission. I looked around - felt all around with my hands - and could not find any place to plug the connector in.

Does anyone have an idea? I'm sorry I did not take a picture while I was under there - I should have.

Thanks and God Bless.

If it is what I believe it to be, it's supposed to plug into the backup light switch on a 5-speed Getrag transmission. Are the wires going into it green and blue?

Since you have the 4-speed Muncie with the shift-lever-mounted backup light switch, that particular connector is left unconnected on your Fiero.

Like mentioned above, it's probably for the reverse light switch on a 5-speed. On your car, that plug will be unused.

Yes, I believe the wires are green and blue. Phew. That is a relief! Thank you for the insight.
