Fuel sending issues (Page 1/1)

I've had a sending unit that didn't work when I purchased the car and it was stuck on full. I purchased an aftermarket unit and tested it out of the tank...it worked. Once installed it didn't. I removed the tank and unit at least 5 x's since the Fiero Store said I may have an issue with the float hitting the baffle and I should bend the unit slightly until it clears. It then worked once or twice, but stopped. The pump itself is fine! I removed part of the baffle and still had issues, so I returned that unit and found a used one online which, again, worked outside the tank, when tested, but Doesn't when installed. Now it reads empty. What could be the problem? I use the cars pigtail connection when I test it outside the tank, so I don't think that's it! HELP!

Are you sure you don't really have a full tank of gas?.... Just joking.

Did you check the new sender with an ohm meter? Leave dash gauge out of the loop. Full should read 90 ohms raised and 0 ohms lowered empty. Also with sender out of tank raise and lower the float and see if the ohm meter responds accordingly. If there is any sideways wobble in the float as it's being raised or lowered, make sure the arm is not making contact with the resistor box or parts of the sender.

With sender in tank and an empty tank of course you could also flip or roll it upside down gently and let gravity work for you as you watch the ohm meter. No ohm meter? Harbor freight $6.00.
