Mystery terminal on clutch switch (Page 1/1)

This is interesting...

I was under the dashboard yesterday on the Indy Fiero, and I noticed an open spade connector on the clutch switch. It is to the left of what looks like at least two terminals that have wires going to them.

I am wondering if this is a terminal that is used by to insure that the clutch must be depressed on cars that do not have cruise control.

Anyone have any idea?

The clutch switch has several functions. One is to assure that the car doesn't lurch upon starting. This is accomplished by keeping the starting circuit open until the clutch is depressed.

The other function disengages the cruise control if equipped. The circuit is closed until the clutch pedal is depressed. This breaks the circuit to disengage the cruise. You may not have cruise on your Indy.

I do have cruise on it. I think these pretty much all of the options on them.

Do you know if the single, unused terminal is for cars without cruise?

Sorry, I don't know. Because Pontiac used so many parts bin parts it may be that it was used in other prior year vehicles. I don't have a schematic handy so I can't identify it.

Can you take a picture of the spade a the pedal assembly? We can probably find where it's supposed to go.

Here is a picture of my 5-Speed pedal assembly... has all the things Fiero Fool was talking about... I don't know if the 4 cyl manual pedals are any different... but hope this helps.

This is on an 87 5-Speed V6. You can tell that even with three harnesses hooked up, there's STILL another space for an additional connector... who knows... I was converting from an automatic to a 5-Speed.
