Hey all, 2.5 84 here.
I've got a 4 speed in my 84 and have a local recycler who's got a refreshed Getrag. Aside from the obvious little things (slave cylinder, speedo gear, cables, etc.) I'm wondering if the bold pattern would be the same and or if the Getrag would bolt up to the 84 Duke. Also, would I need to swap the prom since its already a manual? Thanks all!

It will swap over. You'll need the shifter, cables, slave cylinder and cable to transmission mount. You wll also need the transmission mount brackets and the bracket that bolts to the end of the transmission for the select cable. The speedo VSS is the same and if the gear on the two are the same color, no need to change. Your ECM is OK. I think the only area you may have a problem is that the 4-speed backup light switch is on the shifter and the Getrag backup light switch is in the transmission. You would need to run wiring for them.
The clutch, pressure plate and flywheel assembly is the same but you will need a Getrag specific throwout bearing. To guarantee you get the correct bearing, order one for an 87 or 88 V6. If you're going to replace the whole clutch assembly, just get one for the 87 or 88 V6. It's a larger clutch disk.[This message has been edited by fierofool (edited 09-06-2019).]

thanks!
I was reading Rodney Dickman's Getrag swap but wasn't sure if the 84 would accept it readily. I'll probably jump on the oportunity then and hold it for the winter upgrade months here in the Mitten state.

The extra gear you'd acquire with a Getrag would be nice... but a Getrag is kind of overkill for a duke. Are you being offered it for a song? Isuzu 5-spds can be had for next to nothing. I put one in my '84. It's one of the more worthwhile mods I've ever done to a Fiero. [This message has been edited by Patrick (edited 09-06-2019).]

Yeah its going for a song and dance. Plus, its nearby. Means I don't have to hunt down another trans that might not be refreshed or needs to be shipped.

Of course, the day I decide on it, someone snagged it! What other models had the Isuzu 5spd fwd?

So I snagged an isuzu 5spd for nothing (good call). What did you need specifically when you did your swap? Since I already have a manual, will the ECM need a new PROM or is it set with the one I currently have?
