Strange turn signal issue (Page 1/1)

Visited a new Fiero owner in my area today, a co-worker had introduced to me.

Trying to help out, younger fellow who is very eager and excited to experience the excitement we all know and love.

85 GT.

So the issue is, the hazards work, and the right turn signal works as it should. However, engaging the left turn signal makes all of the turn signals flash, just as if the hazard switch was pressed.

A little stumped, a previous owner has added an aftermarket fan and altered the wiring there, but that seems okay. They had also jumped a wire from the driver side pink-to-headlight actuator relay wire, to the driver side sidemarker. I removed this strange wire (probably a failed attempt to get the headlights to work) and the sidemarker still had it's own power.

No apparent wire hacks under the dash, either. I tried removing both flasher relays, the one under the column was pretty hot after leaving the signals on a little bit, but still clicking and nothing else out of the ordinary.

I suspect an issue with the turn signal switch harness/assembly inside the column, perhaps the springy metal and contacts that also lock the turn signal stalk into position until the cancel cam allows the stalk to return?

Anyway, anyone here ever had a similar issue? I am experienced at tearing columns down but would like to see if any other ideas pop up.

Check the really simple things first. I've seen some pretty bizarre behavior when there's an internal short in one of the turn signal bulbs.

Good call, Patrick. I had gone ahead and told him the same thing first and he has bulbs on the way, so I have him checking sockets, wiring, and bulbs when the new ones come in. I have experienced issues from these areas, usually giving me a solid turn signal or hazard, without flashing.

Fuses checked out and I advised him to verify the correct amp fuses are being used in their respective slots.

Front and rear Bulbs and Sockets may look ok and still have problems in them, wires to them, etc.
Try See my Cave, Sneak Path and Lighbulbs

NAPA and some others sell 10 pack of new bulbs that are cheaper them 2 packs sold everywhere else.
Nochies uses 8 and you have 2 spares.
