Quarter Window Fishing Line? (Page 1/1)

So I go into the garage today and notice a line hanging from the bottom of my window. Used a credit card to try to slot it back in but it keeps popping out further down the window. Seems like such a simple thing but it’s driving me insane, anyone else deal with this? Wish it was the other side because that window is cracked and needs replacing (if anyone could share a link or video of that procedure it would be greatly appreciated as well). But yeah, what to do about this pesky line?!

The fishing line would work OK back with-in 10 years of manufacture- but by now it will probably just break if you try to use it to remove your window; I removed a number of windows in the JY using knives, putty knives, safety wire, etc.

The way the line was attached to the window was that it was on the outside of the tape. To access the line you had to remove the inner trim panel from the quarter window and the ends were taped to the backside of the window. Pulling the two ends would pull the line through the tape, splitting the foam between the two adhesive surfaces.

I used a guitar string inserted down through one of the gaps in the tape. I wrapped each end of the string around a stick and used it to saw around the old window, cutting the tape loose. The string I used was the smallest one that has more wire wrapped around it. You can use a putty knife pushed down from inside the quarter window to separate some of the tape, too, but you can't access all the tape.

The factory installed the windows with gaps at the bottom. I think it may have been to allow water to drain out and prevent it from freezing and cracking the window or pushing it loose.
