Headlight delayed on going up along with twitching and getting hot (Page 1/1)

So I recently purchased my first Fiero (1986 GT) and one problem was that the headlight motor gear was stripped. Before this it never had a problem going up or down, it was just spinning when it was going down. I ordered a rebuild kit and opened it up and replaced the gear but upon putting it back together I'm now having issues with it going back up and very rarely down. It's extremely delayed by around 7 to 10 seconds. I thought it was a Headlight Relay problem but I purchased a new one and it didn't solve it. Along with this the Headlight motor does slight twitching in the down position and gets really hot. I cleaned all of the connection ports on the relay and connectors and still no avail.

Does anyone know what the issue could be? Thank you.

Thank you for the link! Yeah it seems like their problem is very similar to mine, I'm just lost on how you actually fix it though.

This link may work.

If I were you I'd search the Pic&Pulls for the 87-88 headlight system. Pull the entire harness along with the hidden module under the front drivers wheel well. Grab motors if still there. If not you can pick up87-88 motors at Advance Auto for under $86 each. They may even throw in a lifetime warranty.

This is an electronic operation and will work better than the 3 mechanical relays and bump stops to shut off a motor. Don't risk a fire due to a malfunctioning headlight system by design.
