Engine out the top (Page 1/1)

Im taking the engine out of my rust bucket parts car because I know it was put in not long before i bought the car. Since the chasis is rusted horribly (to the point it’s barely a car) my dad and I decided to take the engine out of the top, we cut off two slivers of body and frame right behind the rear wheel and there’s enough space to walk right up to the back of the engine and lean on it so Im not worried about space. Its a 1987 v6 se auto and my question is how do i unbolt the transmission so i can pull it out the top woth ease?

Were not taking it out the bottom because where the craddle connects its so rusted that we wont be able to put the car back together to call someone to take it away

I sent a Fiero to the junkyard, without its cradle or rear suspension.

I made some wood skids to go underneath, held by lag screws going through the floorpan.

For the tow truck driver, it wasn't an issue. Think about it, they have to haul wrecked cars (that don't necessarily roll anymore) away from accident scenes.

While pulling the car out from the garage, we just had to manhandle the Fiero a bit, to keep in going in a straight line through the door opening.

To pull the powertrain out the top, you'll still need to pull both the axles.
