1987 Fiero GT - been in storage (Page 1/1)

Just purchased a 87 Fiero GT, 52K miles from original Owner. Car has been in storage for 10+ years. It ran when first stored but apparently does not run now. Any suggestions on what to prepare ahead of trying to start it? The car is all original and has the 2.8 six with an automatic trans. Of course I do have some ideas of my own but would like some input.

Change the oil and filter, drain any old fuel out of the tank, check for mouse nests and any wires they may have chewed up. Take your time and go through everything you can. When you do try to start it, listen for the fuel pump to run for a few seconds to make sure it's working. I'm sure other members will chime in with more ideas.

All of the above plus...Might also want to remove the plugs....squirt some marvels mystery oil in and turn it over a bit before just firing it up. Leave the plugs out when turning over. Change fuel filter..... 10 year old gas will be complete crap. Best to drop the tank and clean out.

Make sure you fix things before driving. Besides changing All fluids, Car sitting years often have many parts that are bad now or soon will be.
Example: Water pump can die because seal fails in hours, days to weeks. Weak/no coolant attacks it from inside and rust on outside of shaft attacks it from outside.
Brake and Suspension parts can "wear" even park for years and have problems too.

Sounds like a great find!

The factory/original brake hoses on my recent low mile barn find were no good. They broke down inside and the material bulged on two of the hoses and caused those calipers to seize up.. in just a few miles I might add.

Would recommend replacing those, easy to overlook!

Does your car have AC? If so you will want to give the whole system a close look. Arizona is hard on AC and you don't want to be without it.
