As my 86 GT 2.8 lives outside and after a rain, water is getting down through the louvers over the battery, and soaking the front of the engine, and belt. When I start it after it rains, the alternator is not charging until the belt dries up and grabs, about 30 seconds. I'm worried that with all that belt slippage, and water in there that the belt, and/or the alt. will suffer a premature demise. Can anything else short of covering the cover, and forgetting to uncover it when I take off be done to eliminate this situation? Can this cover be sealed some how to eliminate this situation, or does it need to be open to aid in cooling? [This message has been edited by FX (edited 08-18-2019).]

Maybe you should cover up the louvers and put a sticky note on the steering wheel....

This will solve all your problems. Seriously, it's the best money that you'll ever spend on a 2.8 powered Fiero.

Belt noise is a dead belt no matter what cause it. re tighten a noisy belt doesn't fix the dead belt. Water doesn't kill a belt but crap in it can plus leaking oil, crap bearings in WP, Alt, AC and more. Most of same problem covered in my Cave, Serpent Belt------------------ Dr. Ian Malcolm: Yeah, but your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn't stop to think if they should. I second this, I had one once, sold it, then received one second hand, you can't go wrong with this at all, great price and it WORKS!

Ogre, it's a new belt. Not making any noise, but slipping when wet. I will go with Rodney's tensioner kit... [This message has been edited by FX (edited 08-21-2019).]

Your "new" belt is very likely permanently damage for slipping. Any/all pulleys and parts driven by them can have problems too. Even the least amount of oil, car soap/wax, etc. getting on the belt(s) and pulley(s) can slipping when wet to all the time. Very likely is slipping at the time now but not making much noise when dry.

Thanks Ogre. Since the tensioner kit comes with a new belt I should be okay...
