Just need some assurance (Page 1/1)

I need to remove the rear deck. As long as the restraining cables on the hinges are okay, I can just remove the 4 bolts holding the deck lid to the hinges and lift it off, right? I don't have to worry about the hinges flying back and smashing the rear window?

Once I have the deck lid off, can I adjust the hinges on the firewall up or down without releasing the torsion rods?

Thanks.

You can also adjust the hinges with the deck lid installed by accessing the bolts into the decklid and nuts on the hinge box studs by removing the decklid grilles (or plates on an 84).

I tried that but the hinges will not lower. I've removed one of the nuts and can see there is adjustment available, but efforts to move the hinge down to lower the leading edge of the decklid by loosening all 4 nuts on the hinge boxes don't seem to work with the torsion bar attached.

The hinges should move down with the decklid raised, as tension is relieved on the torsion springs.
