Muffler Options 1988 GT (Page 1/1)

What muffler brand and part number will fit in place of the factory setup? Mine has a split in it and I prefer to just replace the muffler instead of the rest of the exhaust. The rest is in pretty good shape and I have someone that can weld it in.

Westcoast Fiero has some ready to install options: https://westcoastfiero.com/t/mufflers

If I remember correctly on my '88 when I still had the 2.8 engine (it's been a LONG time), I took an 80 Series flowmaster and chopped 4" of length out of it then rewelded the end piece on. At that time they could be had for around $85 from summit.

Go onto Summits Racing Equipment web site. Look up 'Jones Exhaust". Under the Full Boar (Yes that's the correct spelling) you will find a muffler available that is the same dimension as the original muffler. It's available in a quiet and not so quiet. Just measure the old muffler to get the correct size.

Flowmaster makes an 80 Series muffler that's the same size and configuration as the Fiero. It was the same muffler used on some of the Camaros. It's a one in, two out pipe configuration, just like the Fiero V6 mufflers.

I only found one of the Jones Exhaust Full Boar on summitracing. This one:

Jones Exhaust FB2583 - Jones Exhaust Full Boar Flow Deflector Performance Mufflers
Click here for more information about Jones Exhaust FB2583 - Jones Exhaust Full Boar Flow Deflector Performance Mufflers
Muffler, Full Boar Flow Deflector, 2 1/2 in. Inlet, Dual 2 1/2 in. Outlet, Steel, Aluminized, Each

JEX-FB2583

Estimated Ship Date: Today

Is this the quiet or loud one? Does anyone know the part number for the other one?

If you consider using the Jones FB2583 check the length for clearance. To ywars ago I was going to build an exhaust using this muffler and bought it on Amazon (still listed there for $41.50 free shipping). When it arrived I found out that the dimensions listed on Amazon are STILL incorrect (the dimensions on Summit I think are right). The problem was that the real length made it too long to fit with 90 degree elbows to route to the tips (I wasn't using the stock tips but I think those have 2.25" inlets and would have to be adapted anyway). I don't think you can make it fit in the unmodified stock location.

For what it's worth, I ended up installing the Ocelot cat-back kit from The Fiero Store. A nice system provided you'd be happy with a 2.25" exhaust.

Bought one(Full Boar) from Summitt a couple of years ago. Got it out to the car and looked at it. Brought it right back in and got a refund. It was close to 20" long.
