Best brake upgrade for the rear of an 87? (Page 1/2)
Threedog JUL 22, 02:47 PM
I have C5 brakes in the front of my 87, but I am wondering what the best upgrade is for the rear that keeps the parking/emergency brake(also to help balance the braking system). I have looked and there seem to be a TON of different ones, but very few that mention the c5 brake upgrade in the front.

Anyone have any suggestions?

I have Archie brakes. Essentially the rears are Cadillac rear calipers and 11.25" Lebaron GTC rotors. These allow you to use your stock e-brake cables. Another option is to go Wilwood, they have a setup for parking brake specific.

We have read about the Seville rear caliper swap. Don't doubt that they work great. The only disadvantage in using them is that like the Fiero rear calipers the Seville's are also dated and may go completely obsolete in the near future. I do believe that Wilwood may be the answer but AFAIK there are no direct bolt on units available. On my Fieros I just upgraded to the 97 S-10 brake booster and found a dramatic difference in braking power.

C6 Z51 rear rotors are basically the same size as C5 front rotors and work with C5 front calipers.. They use the C6 drum-in-hat parking brake. Adapting that to the Fiero will require a little fab, though.

Does anyone know where I can source the brackets for the LeBaron upgrade? Is there anyone still selling them?

You can contact Archie and ask. He still makes the kits, just not sure if you pieces them out.

Thanks! I asked him through his website.

Honestly it probably would be best to just call him.

The specs I have on the Z51 rear rotors are 13"x1.0" wide, while C5 front rotors are 12.75"x1.25" wide. I would not use C5 front calipers on a 1" rotor.
