1985 fiero 4 cyl /auto.(50k miles) Every once in awhile the car will "stall" at a light, or NOW even will stall "going down the road" ! I can put it in neutral while "still driving" and hit start and keep on rolling. the Coil "inside the dist" is new, injector is new, fuel pump new,Hose, fuel filter new. (Good Fuel pressure) New ICM will be here tomorrow. Is it possible for the (electronic part "bolted on top of the steering column") Ign "SWITCH" to cause this ??? It has "Contacts" inside that have to touch each other ( what if they are not "touching" Securely ? ( when restarting, it moves these contacts to "touch " again ! what do you think? been chasing this for a LOONG Time. Thanks

Had that happen in a Mazda pick up. Ignition switch was worn out due to the amount of keys on my keyring. Scary as hell in heavy traffic at speed on 95 to hit a bump and have the truck turn off! So yes, it could be the switch.

See if you can catch it while driving down the road. While the engine is still spinning is the tach still reading what it should? This isn't going to work at a stop but if you are driving the engine should not stop spinning.
If the tach cuts out during this time, look at primary ignition issues. If not then look at ECM/fuel issues.

WHY would the engine NOT stop spinning, it's an automatic.

If the power goes dead then the tach won't read. If the problem is a fuel cutoff then the gauges should still be on. ------------------ " THE BLACK PARALYZER" -87GT 3800SC Series III engine, custom ZZP /Frozen Boost Intercooler setup, 3.4" Pulley, Northstar TB, LS1 MAF, 3" Spintech/Hedman Exhaust, P-log Manifold, Autolite 104's, MSD wires, Custom CAI, 4T65eHD w. custom axles, Champion Radiator, S10 Brake Booster, HP Tuners VCM Suite. The transmission is hydraulic rather than electronic. As long as the pump is turning, it will stay in gear and keep the engine turning, which keeps the pump turning. The TCC may unlock.
But it sounds like the tach goes to zero and you're calling that "stall". The engine is still turning; the ignition is just unpowered or not getting trigger pulses. Check for loose connections everywhere, including ground wires.
