Valve cover and intake external cleaning (Page 1/1)

I have an 87 GT, I finally have it to the point that I would like to start taking it to a few car shows. I spilled some coolant on the intake and valve covers when I was replacing hoses and thermostat. I wiped it off, but it left some kind of sticky residue on them. I am curious what I can use that won't damage any of the red paint to remove this stuff... I have a dremel with a polishing wheel that I want to use to shine them up after they are clean.

I have tried some mild engine degreaser, some Gum Out engine cleaner as well as some mild soap and water, but it remains! Quite stuborn! Ideas?

Use the coolant as your wetting agent and see if you can move the marks...maybe with a toothbrush. If they do move, rinse and dry everything before new marks can form.

NICE! Kind of like using chewing gum to remove chewing gum. Thank you!

Duplicolor Chrysler Engine Red paint works nice. Looks OEM as well.

I use a steam cleaner (like the one sold at harbor freight). With the supplied wands and tips it's easy to target the areas that you want to clean without having to worry about water in the distributor cap, wires etc. Also great for cleaning brake dust off the wheels and calipers.
