Coolant pipe brackets? Where to buy? (Page 1/1)
chaotichamster9 JUN 21, 01:20 PM
I’m the new owner of a 88 Fiero GT. Car is in great shape, underneath had a few surface rust issues that I intend to grind and undercoat. However, the coolant pipe brackets (?) are in pretty bad shape. Wanted to know where to buy replacements so I can take off the old nasty ones and put clean ones in. Attached are pictures of the brackets and underneath, what do you all think? Thanks! Bracket Under

I purchased a set of reproduction brackets for my 87 GT from the Fiero Store. Mine were pretty rusted out, and the new ones were a direct fit. What I don't like about them is that they are made from galvenized, not stainless like the coolant pipe. They're just gonna rust out over time like the original ones.

I gave mine a couple good coats of paint. Rustoleum, probably, or black caliper paint; I don't remember.

The old Fiero Factory (now TFF Auto) in Toney, AL may be able to help you out.

The OEM brackets were electrocoated (paint) steel.
The Fiero Store brackets are very nice, the units I got from them were zinc plated and yellow chromated. I painted them with a few coats of black paint.
Before installation I put a few layers of heavy black tape on the area where the pipe lays to prevent metal to metal contact.

Why wouldn't you use the rubber pieces that go between the coolant pipes and the brackets?

In my case, they were too far gone. I used pieces of the rubber that goes to a new floor pan for a shower.

The Fiero Store brackets are of a much better quality than factory. Painting them is a nice touch for longevity. The ones on my 87GT lasted almost thirty years. I expect at least as much out of the new ones.

I did, but the rubber isolators crush enough to allow metal to metal contact.
I noticed that the brackets corroded from the top, and wanted top help the paint system by protecting it with the tape.
