4 Cylinder - Gas Smell (Page 1/1)

Since getting the Fiero out of storage this spring, I've been having a gas smell inside the car.
I don't see any sign of leaking around the Throttle body or the Fuel Filter. The smell is most noticeable INSIDE the car. I don't really pick up anything sniffing around the engine bay.

The problem seems to be worse after I fill up the tank.

Are there any common leak points? I've never touched the charcoal canister in 30 years of owning this car. Is there anything there that requires maintenance??

rubber hoses on the fuel tank? Maybe the filler tube?

Look for leaks in fill pipes, vent lines and top of tank.
They Can smell a lot w/o leaking liquid on the floor.

If needed find a shop w/ smoke tester or try to make one.
Do not smoke the EVAP can. Pinch the vent line to prevent this.

Note that 87+ 700 series TBI regulator can leak liquid but because is inside air cleaner can be hard to see this happening w/o removing cover and filter while you start the car. Get rebuilt kit is that happens. See my Cave, 700 TBI
