'86 GT 2.8 Serpentine Belt Info (Page 1/1)

Hi Everyone,
I am in the process of changing my alternator and I wanted to put this info out on the forum in case anyone was doing the same. This is in regards to the serpentine belt on my 2.8. The original belt that was in the car is a 5PK1040. I purchased a new one from Autozone.com and they sent me a 5PK1050, which was a bit too long to work. I went to the physical store, returned the long one and tried to buy the correct one. Apparently, Autozone has a lookup for the 5PK1040 that points to the 5PK1050, which is no good. Also, they do not stock any of these belts at any store near me in the chicagoland area.

So long story short, don't buy the recommended serpentine belt from Autozone.com, it will be the wrong one. Get your belt online at a different place using the 5PK1040 number. I just purchased a 5PK1040 from vbeltguys, we will see how that turns out. I can report back.

Thanks,
--Scott

It probably fits the 87/88 4 cylinder.....which has a serpentine belt.... The 2.8 has a 'micro-V' belt.

That absolutely could be, but I watched him select the v6 2.8 engine. They did not even have the ability to order me a 5PK1040 as they just said that number points to 5PK1050. Super odd, right?

You can verify the numbers on the RockAuto web site.

edit: After reviewing RockAuto, I can see a lot of serpentine belts listed....and 'micro-V' belts....that were never on Fiero 2.8 engines.....I don't get it.

This looks to be the right belt for the serpentine.

We would need verification though.

I think some of those belts listed at RockAuto are for the AC compressor.

edit: Don't go cheap on belts for the 2.8. They tend to squeal and slip.

That is correct. The V belts on the 2.8 are for the AC compressor.

Are Rockauto belts"cheap"? They are definitely inexpensive.
