'84 tire size question (Page 1/1)
CSM842M4 JUN 06, 10:08 PM
It's time to put new tires on the wife's '84 SE. It has 15" wheels, not factory units. I was wondering what the stock tire sizes would be for any sub-model '84 with 15" wheels. My '86 calls for 205-60R15 fronts and 215-60R15 rears in the owners manual; the '84 is rolling on 205-60R15 front and 225-60R15 rear, but I'm not sure that's even close. I mean, they fit and don't rub and all, but... Anyone? Thanks in advance - Chris

84 Fieros didn't come with 15" wheels.

If they fit, don't rub, and don't cause problems, then what the GM equipped 84 Fieros with is irrelevant to what's appropriate for the wife's Fiero today. What works, works, so stick with what you know and like.

You know that all Fieros from 84 to 87 are essentially the same car. Only the 88 is somewhat different.

If your question is with regards to the speedometer accuracy, different speedo sensor gears were used depending on the tire size, so you could mess with that if you wanted to tweak the speedo reading. The VSS is different between manual and automatic Fieros, so you would need to specify that before continuing discussion on that topic.

Most 84 had 13" and 14" rims and same size/width on both axles. Carefully look at door stickers. Likely faded/damaged but look and even use a flash light at different angles. use tirerack etc search on car and year.

205/60R15 is an alternate tire size for 13" or 14" rims for Fiero.
I have them on all wheels and very close to total diam that speedo etc doesn't care.
Unlike 225-60R15 that will screw up the speedo and total gearing to negatively affect power to ground.

OE Staggered sizes have right speedo gear to make speedo to work right. May or not have different trans/final gearing too.

But need more info...
15" diam but what is the width?
Width matter to tire mounted on them. Too wide or too narrow and many shops won't mount a given tire because of company policy and/or make problems w/ business insurance.

Many rims are marked on the back somewhere w/ diam and width.

Thanks, pmbrunelle and ogre. I'm more concerned about interfering with anything steering or suspension - this is the wife's car, and she doesn't drive in as spirited a manner as I do. As such, she's also less concerned with speedometer accuracy than with how the car looks. The tires on it now (215/225) haven't given any trouble or seemed to have negatively impacted performance, so she wants to stick with those sizes. Happy wife,... Thanks again - Chris
