Ecm/harness question (Page 1/1)

So I’m looking into 3800 swapping a Fiero. I have complete running and driving Grand Prix GTP. The only thing I’m having problems figuring out is the wire harness and computer situation. Am I able to use the computer and harness out of the GTP? Or do I really need to buy a programmed computer and different harness? Because all I can seem to find online is people using aftermarket or made harnesses and I can’t find any info on what computer they’re using.

The harness shoul be modified to attach to the Fiero chassis, and the new engine.
The PCM (computer) issue depends on the year of the donor engine.

You already have what you need from the GTP. Send that ECM (computer) out to have it programmed for your application. Stick or automatic, etc,,,,,,.
You can get your GTP harness modified to work with your application or you can have a custom harness made.

I plan on using the auto that’s in the GTP. Would I still need to get the pcm programed? If so exactly what programming am I getting done to it?

Yes, the PCM will need to be reprogrammed.
Some of the parameters such as tire size will need to be adjusted, as well as eliminating missing inputs from devices like the BCM from the GTP.

Oh ok. Thanks guys

I used the harness from the GTP. It's a nice fit. I used the entire underhood harness, including the Fuse Box and Electronic Cruise control wiring. The harness does need some modification, but it was nothing like starting from scratch. Actually had fewer connections to the Fiero system, as all of the engine wires stay connected through the fuse box. ECM fits where the Fiero Fuel Pump relays exist, Fuse Box sits where the battery sits ( move battery to front), cruise mounts on driver's side fenderwell near where the current cruise mounts. I did replace most of the old harness cover, and while doing so re-routed some of the wires for a cleaner look, but for the most part it can drop right on the engine.

Thank you

Build your own harness, its not that difficult. Get the pinnouts from Ryan's website http://www.gmtuners.com/files/index.htm Then create your own "log book" w/ data you have printed from different posts. Ask questions and do it. About half way down this thread you can see what I did. http://www.fiero.nl/forum/Forum1/HTML/089035.html

Have fun
