Sorry, another will this tire fit my car ? (Page 1/1)

I'm thinking about about removing the aftermarket five spoke wheels and selling them so I can go back to the stock High Tech 14 in. wheels. The car is an 84 SE and the stock tire is 215 60 14, I'm tired of people asking me if I jacked the car up and want to go to a taller taller tire to lessen the gap in the wheel wells. I'm thinking of a 215 70 14 tire but I want to see if you folks think, or better yet, know if they would fit my 84. I understand that a taller tire would not handle as well as the 60 series will but being an older guy I rarely push anything to the limit.

Thanks.

Stock suspension I do not see why it would not fit because the wheel gap on any Fiero is a lot from the factory. The sidewall of the 70 series tire is almost an inch more than the 60 series, so it will fill that gap some. Why not just lower the car some and keep the aftermarket rims?

Make sure you have a source for a tire that you like. 14" trailer tires do not handle well at all, and real tires in that size are hard to find.

Spadesluck, Given my age and bad back and knees I don't want to make the car any harder to to get in and out, or put a lot of money into it. I did think about this and ten years ago I would have gone that way, but not now. This is a good idea though and I thank you for it.

Gall757. I did a fast search first for 215 60's but didn't find anything or Tire Rack, so I tried 215 70's and they have five tires, two with raised white letters. One of the RWL tires are BF Goodrich, which are what I wave on it now in 215 60. I hear you on the trailer tires.

Most OE 14 is 14 x 6" wide rim w/ 195/70R14 tire and 215 profile needs 6.5" to 7" wide to meet tire specs.
Full width of range depend on tire model from whatever brand so can't just guess because specs for one can allow more width and another can be very strict.

You can force many tires on wider/narrower rims outside of tire specs but will void any warranty and many shops won't install them either.

Bigger/smaller tires vs OE affects total gearing not just screwing up the speedo.

I would make this suggestion; Get some 86-87 GT springs which will lower the car approx' 1/2", then get the 86-87 wheels which are 15s and install some 215 and 225/60-15 tires and you will have eliminated approx' 1 1/4" of "gapitis".....

Yes it is more involved, but the results will be very good.....
