Re-manned Injectors ! (Page 1/1)

customer bought a set of" Re-manned Fuel Injectors" (EBAY) for his 3800SC Swap. Engine ran pretty good BEFORE "installing them".
I put them in, started the car, Holy sh-t, runs like crap, smoke rolling out, Shut it down. I put on a pressure gauge, turn the key on and it pumps up to 55 PSI and then IMMEDIATELY Drops to ZERO ! pulled the re-mans out and put the "old ones" back in and it runs fine. What a WASTE of time and money!

That's why I clean injectors myself. There is no way that you can remanufacture a fuel injector. The only thing that you can do is clean and flow test. The easiest way is to attach a cleaning cylinder on the fuel rail and run the solvent directly through the injectors.

I just ordered one of those injector cleaners off ebay, with the wires/alligator clips and tube to put the injector in and then use a can of injector cleaner to flush it. should be good even to just Check em. I must have 30 3800sc injecors in a drawer LOL

You can pick up a 4 cyl fuel rail for next to nothing, use some scrap GM injector pigtails from a junk harness and make a test rig that you can fill injector cleaner with, pressurize with an an air compressor, and use a 9 volt battery and push button to cycle/spray/clean 4 injectors at a time. Add some test tubes and you can monitor the relatively flow between them...

I spent a couple of days chasing an injector issue on a 4.9 way back when, ever since, I test them before install.

That inexpensive injector cleaning kit works great on the units that are off the car. Only one suggestion: put a push button switch on the injector harness. If you try to clamp it on a battery or battery charger (while connected to the injector) you will get a spark. If the flow of the cleaner being sprayed out hits that spark you will end up with a flamethrower. Just use it cautiously and you will get great results. I also found that some brands of aerosol carburetor cleaners can attach to the injector test jig better than others. As for cleaning on the car you can't beat the pressurized fuel rail cylinder kit. They are about $69 on eBay and the cans of OTC $12 ea on Amazon.
