Front & Rear Overhang dimensions (Page 1/1)

As I currently don't have a Fiero handy, and internet and forum searches have not turned up the needed info....
Does anyone know the front and rear overhang dimensions on Fiero's? Specifically an '88 GT vs. '88 base, centerline of front axle to the tip of the nose and centerline of rear axle to rearmost bodywork. I would also be curious if/how much variance there is over the years. I need to transport two cars and (as I am not where they are yet) need to see how/if they will fit on the trailer options I have available.

Thanks in advance for either the dimensions, or a link to same.

The bumper covers have different ground clearance. Overhang is likely the same, but I don't have a car here to measure.

Yes, heights vary (especially with lowered cars!). I am needing to transport two project cars. I just need to be sure I can get all 4 axles/8 wheels on the trailer with the cars nose to tail / nose to nose / tail to tail. I have an enclosed trailer option available, but am considering a smaller/lighter open trailer....

One thing that all Fieros have in common is that the tail overhang is much shorter than the front overhang. I have an 85 SE w/ a later base nose but also one arm in a sling so I can't get measurements from it....However, let me see what the measurements are in the R&T road tests.....The 1985 GT shows the overhangs as; Front = 41", and the rear = 30.7"..........The base Fiero shows in the R&T test for 1984 as Front = 36.2" and rear = 30.7"......It would appear that all the Fieros had the same rear overhang, but the front was different.....If you >>Suppose<< that the rear overhang for the 87-88 base/Formula is still 30.7", then I do have a test that shows the Formula at an overall length of 163.1"....this would suggest that the front overhang would be 39".....My one-armed measurement out in the garage seems to bear that out.

Your best bet is to mount them tail-to-tail on the trailer....

13'6" overall length......

If you need to shorten the cars, you could always just remove the bumper covers for the transport, easy to do.

Thanks all, just eyeballing some photos it seemed "tail to tail" was likely the best option. Based on the dimensions above I am within 1 foot of getting them both on the open trailer. I am going to see the cars firsthand in early May and then (if the deal gets done), go pick them up before Memorial Day.

I will take actual measurements of the cars while there - and look into removing the bumper cover(s) for transport. I can always fall back on borrowing a truck/trailer combo from a racing friend, but would prefer not to if this other option is managable.

The overall length from front axle to front axle with the two cars tail-to-tail should be 20 feet and 9 inches..........That is the length of trailer you need- remember though, you also need room for the front Fiero's overhang at the front of the trailer.......Total overall length will be 27 feet and 4 inches.
