any way to ADD.. (Page 1/2)

1986 coupe, 1999 3800SC Swap.. is there any way, another port ? to add a secondary TEMP Gauge ? don't Trust that Dash Gauge. the "fan" comes on up front but the gauge only reads 170, the "point and shoot thermal gauge" says 220 when pointed at the thermostat housing ! Does the Green wire from the 3800 sender go directly to the dash gauge ? (can an aftermarket elec gauge use that wire for signal ??) ALSO, is the sender in the 3800sc from a '99 Grand prix for a "Gauge" or a "idiot light" ??

3800 sensor has 3 wires- yellow to "clear 26", black to" blue 12", and ______________________ to where?

Green goes to c500 pin c2 which goes directly to guage

Aftermarket senders and gages do not use the same resistance range as GM senders and gages.

ok, that settles that. Thanks

It is possible to recalibrate the temperature gage.

It is possible to recalibrate the temperature gauge. HOW ? this thing starts at 200 degrees cold

Is it possible that the "temp Gauge wiring fix" is confusing the issue. IIRC, that fix crosses the Temp Light wire and the Temp gauge wire. Just something to look into. You can test by using a variable resistor as the source of resistance at the engine end, and seeing what the gauge is doing.

It's also possible that the needle has been knocked off calibration due to the old problem where the Temp Gauge was being slammed full on every time the car started ( reason for the temp gauge wire fix). You can pull the needle off and re-set it- I used a variable resistor to do mine ( The Rheostat for dimming the dash lights will work for this too!).

A few Fiero owners just swapped to a new digital gauge console . IIRC it was used on either the Pontiac Sunbird, Chevy Beretta or Cavalier. It was a nice additinbut some adaptation and modification of the gauge panel was necessary.
