Exhaust hangers (Page 1/1)
damittron APR 24, 09:48 AM
I replaced my exhaust with the Fiero Store Ocelot aluminized version, as well as a new down pipe and catalytic coverter. I have two points (used to have three) where the springs attach to support the exhaust. I would like to add a couple of exhaust hangers to better support it. Has anyone done this, and if so, where did you attach them to the car/what type did you use?

TIA!

Rodney Dickman sells exhaust hangers. I may need some also. Good luck!

I also have the Ocelot. I still used the springs. I added an aftermarket strap to both of the pipes just before the tips for support. The one that has numerous holes in a 1" by about 6" metal strip attached to several inches of reinforced rubber, finishing with the proper sized U bolt setup. I set it up to be even and tight. Over 42,000 miles and holding strong.

Just installed an Ocelot system about 2 weeks ago. I purchased Rodney's stainless exhaust hangers to go along with. I used all the stock mounting points and springs and have no problems. The system did take some fiddling with to get it all lined up.

When you say "used to have 3" where are you talking about?

Well, technically, there were four, as the old factory exhaust had springs at the downpipe, at the far corner after the catalytic converter, and on both sides of the muffler. The FS exhaust doesn't have the spring attachment points at the muffler like the fatory version did.

I replaced the factory hangers that were attached near where the exhaust tips attach with new ones from FS, they work fine, I just feel like it should be a bit more solid, and there is a bit of a drone/vibration at certain RPM. It's not like it is hanging loose or anything, but I just felt it could be better...maybe not.

Gotcha.

Sounds as if you have it covered. If you are concerned, lift the car and shake the exhaust around a lot. Find an issue and address it.

Did you weld your system together? I did after fitting.

I like the shake test! I did weld it, I basically fitted it, marked it, then welded it with my wire feed welder. All of the connections are good and not leaking.

What you're looking at here is the driver's side rear wheel well with the plastic liner removed. That's the inside on the rear bumper on the right. I drilled a hole in the frame on each side of the car to mount the hangers, and they're clamped to the exhaust tips just where they split into two. I like installing this type of hanger in this location as it gives me the ability to adjust the height of each exhaust tip in relation to the cut-outs in the bumper. The mounting is very secure and the spring suspension on each side of the muffler is not missed. When the wheel well liners are replaced, the hangers are no longer even noticeable.

I have no idea what your search parameters might've been.
