Need help! First time transmission swap (Page 1/2)
CrazyDragn APR 23, 03:53 PM
I have an Isuzu trans that skips when in reverse, pops out of fifth and gets stuck in first and will not move. I have a new trans replacement to go in with 60k miles on it.
My problem is that I have never replaced a trans before and was wondering if someone had a write up on it or if someone could post a step by step picture guide for me ( I’m a visual learner lol ). Thanks to all gurus who help.

The link below will take you to a thread that someone put together when changing a clutch. It is a V6, but it's the same process as a 4 cyl and he also includes pics. Good write up. I used it when changing out my clutch.

This is the new site. Same phone number, even.
They don't mention Fieros, but they still support us.

It's possible to replace a manual trans without dropping the cradle but I have found that dropping the cradle is easier to do. Upon re-installing the trans, alignment of the clutch and trans is so much easier this way. Others may disagree but on this end that's the way we've always done it.

yeah, I have droped the cradle out of the car and have it on the carport. took the trans-axle out and all the bolts to the bell housing. now I just have to pry it apart getting the other trans-axle out too. im sure its heavy. my other question is - do the cradle bolts for holding the transmission in come out easily so you can "slide" the trans out?

If you are referring to the transmission mount it can usually can be detached without a problem. Sounds like you are making good progress.
