Help buying/finding an A/C evaporator (Page 1/1)
Threedog APR 15, 12:40 PM
I have a 3800(L67) with all the necessary parts for working A/C, but I have a leak(I can get the system to work for two-three weeks, but it slowly loses pressure and stops unless refilled).

I replaced the compressor, accumulator, expansion valve, orifice tube, and seals in the engine bay, yet it still leaks.

I ran a UV light over the lines by the gas tank and have not found any leaks, which makes me think it has to be the evaporator. Problem is, I can't find one for sale. Anywhere. Amazon and O Reilly do not have one listed. The only ones listed on ebay push $300+, is that how much I should expect to pay? Is there a good way to know if it is leaking or not besides running a UV light over it?

I got mine from here http://fierofiberglass.com/index.html several years ago (misc section). Looks like the fiberglass part of the business is/was up for sale so I have no idea if he still sells them or or not or if if he can point you at his supplier. Maybe worth sending an email

Found this one from old air https://www.oldairproducts....gfid=p117549-c118557 but at $320 it's up thee price wise.
Don't know anything else about it though.

Then I found these https://www.restomodair.com...otive-ac-condensers/
Just the condenser part. Don't know which one if any will fit and you'd need to do some work to transfer parts from old unit to this one but they are a lot cheaper! This or some similar custom unit may be the way to go as parts like this get scarce

Looks like $300 is in the ballpark these days. Who said Fieros would never be worth anything!

Anything I might say is probably worth what you paid for it, so treat it accordingly!

If you can size one properly you just need a generic evaporator about the same size and just make up new hoses for the connections or aluminum solder new ones on. Some work but more cost effective than $300. That's pretty steep.
