Basically I’d like to hear from people who’ve caged their Fieros. I know there is a guy (Chase?) who makes them and according to Jegs they make a kit as well (link below if I figure it out) basically I just want to know how people have overcome the issue of keeping 2” between the bar and your helmet (I’m 6’-1”) and also what sort of options there are. I want one for my own safety and the additional stiffening added for my soon to be engine swap. Also for those who are running brace bars out the back is there any options other than plastic for the window?

Good price.
Will you be racing your car?

Depending on your height and torso length, you might have challenges keeping the 2" of clearance. I am 6'2" with a 32" inseam and when I wear a helmet for autocrossing it bumps the roof structure above the DS window, so I have less than 2" of clearance to the chassis support let alone room for a 1 5/8" tube and 2" of clearance from it.
The challenge with an off-the-shelf kit is it might not focus on maximizing the available space where you need it.

I used the Jegs 12 point kit in my 84. A lot of work! Basically you get the main hoop and the halo bar already bent for the Fiero application. Then you get a bunch of strait pipe and some 6" x 6" floor plates. The most difficult part is to make the floor plates that tie in to the unibody frame rails. You are also going to need a tubing notcher and a good welder. The a-pillar tubes are bent to 45* but I bent mine to 60* to fit the contour of the Fiero better.

Ole joe: I thought it was pretty good as well, and yes I plan to race my fiero
Fieroguru: thank you for your insight into the helmet clearance issue. Also I figured the cage would be extra generic but maybe worth it for the bends and spec materials, additional question to you do you have an OEM seat/seat height?
John: thank you for your feedback on this! I have both a good welder and an ok notcher. Have you had the opportunity to have the cage certified? Also was there a noticeable improvement to the overall stiffness?

No, I have not have the cage certified yet. Car is about a week away from starting. The car is extremely stiff! The trick is tying the roll cage in to the frame rails of the unibody. If you decide to go with the Jeg's cage let me know and I can show you some pics on how I approached the install. Drag racing or road racing? Good luck, man!

It will be for drag racing, and I will definitely let you know if that’s the way I go thank you! it’s still on the back burner while I am working on my engine just trying to get all my ducks in a row first. Good to hear about the rigidity with what I plan I can use all that I can get! And good luck to your build as well!

What engine and transmission are you planning on using? Mine is a supercharged Cadillac 4.5 engine and 4T60 trans.

Well I’m also going with a Cadillac engine, I’m going with the Cadillac 500 and the th425 transmission, hence the importance of the stiffening of the chassis lol. Your build sounds like it’ll seriously haul!!!

Wow, that sound great, Red! That explains the need for the roll cage. Is that the Toranado transmission you are talking about?
