Removing Door / Window Hardware Rivets - Question (Page 1/1)

Has anyone found an easy way or good tool that works on removing the rivets in the doors / windows, I spent a good amount of time using a punch a hammer and my drill to get the power window hardware out of an old donor door, but would like to find out if there is an easier way.

You need a really sharp drill bit and they will come out in about 5 seconds. Any old 1/4 rivets will work or screws and locktite to put them back in.

I know this topic is old, but a trick I found - Just heat up the rivets with a small torch for like 10 seconds. Then the steel core will drive right out and you can drill the aluminum.

Old topic... but always useful information. Rather than drilling the center of the rivet, I drilled 5 holes around the outer edge of the rivet (which is easy to drill) and then a couple taps on the center using a punch (or a screwdriver if you don't have the punch). This is easier and faster than trying to drill out the center of the rivet

Metal parts this should work. But The 3 or 4 rivets for the glass and plastic parts can have problems and broken glass.

Rivets vs. sharp bits... the drill should win. Drill should be a bit larger then hole size where rivet is to cut the heads off.
If the rivet spins try visegrips etc on the back to stop that.
