Ive heard talk of this mythical engine fan but I dont have one on my 86 2.8. Anybody got a picture handy? My car runs great but when it gets to 200 or higher its a bit shaky at idle, not bad but def noticeable. Runs shakier at 210 when the fan comes on. My cars pretty butchered so it may have been removed. Just wondering if my coil n alternators gettin cooked

In trunk right side only runs w/ AC or Rad Fan on.
Yes, Many remove them. Some have installed CS130 alt too so less need of fan.------------------ Dr. Ian Malcolm: Yeah, but your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn't stop to think if they should. (Jurassic Park)

Does it run all the time or just when the rad fan comes on?

The alternator/coil fan runs if the engine gets warm enough to turn on the radiator fan. You can also make the fan run by turning on any of the AC functions. Of course, this makes the radiator fan run, too.

Even Pontiac deemed them worthless in the last model year. I took them out of all my Fieros.

Two reasons they weren't needed in the 88. 1. They moved the crossover pipe away from the distributor and encased it in a heat shield. 2. They changed to a CS style alternator which runs much cooler than the earlier alternators. They weren't useless on the earlier models.
