Great post, but I would like to know if there is a way to identify the M19 transmission with the 4:10 gear ratio from looking at the case?

I have No history on this car.
I can't get mine into reverse.
I found this thread doing a search. My 85 Gt shows the shift pattern on the consloe as a 4 spd. But looking at this thread and the pics I have a Isuzu 5spd.
How can I tell if I have the right shifter.
Making me wonder if someone changed the tranny and not the shifter.
Also what's the shift pattern for the 5spd.
Thank you

i think archie or rodney has a thread showing the differences in the shifters.
cause he was looking to buy them

the way i tell if it's a 4 speed shifter is it has the reverse light switch on it.

I finally got it into reverse. The car has been sitting for 2 years outside. I just kept messing with it and now it goes in fine. It is the 5 spd. But I still belive it's been changed. The reverse light plug at the tranny is not plugged in. And I can't find anything to plug it to near the tranny.
Did a Isuzu 5spd. come in an 85 GT 2.8? I need to put a clutch in and I looked on The Fiero store getting prices. I Only see the 5 spd. listed for 86 - 88. Pt# 54007. So going by that the tranny must be out of an 86 up. Am I right?
Like I said I know NO history on this car other then it sat for 2 years. And these are somewhat new to me so learning.
Thank you

If this is the Isuzu 5spd. You say it only came in a 4cly. car. Would it bolt up to a v6. Isn't the bellhousing different?
PS: what do you use to post pics here
