New style wiper arms (Page 4/4)

When changing wiper blades or wiper arms it's good to remember that the Fiero windshield wipers are very low profile. Some of the aftermarket blades fit higher on the arm and look very bulky. I just replaced mine with a direct fit OEM style.

sorry for the thread revival, just wanted to catalog my 2025 findings and didn't want to gate keep.

it appears that most have already discovered that the Dorman parts (42579 and 42580) are currently rubbish due to them not actually seating properly on the posts. i can't say if this has always been the case, but clearly something changed over time and they became unusable. i can confirm this for 2025 after having just purchased them.

however, some people had mentioned having better success with ones from Chevy trucks. i gave that a whirl right after the failed Dormans and it was a success. you will want original GM Genuine parts 15043063 and 15043064. i got mine off amazon, but i think RockAuto has some too. now on to the comparison.

Dorman on top, GM original part on bottom.
the Dorman (for whatever dumb reasoning) appears to have shallow recessed slots, which basically makes the majority of the visible surface area flat and incapable of gripping onto the splined post. i doubt these would work on the Chevy trucks either. when i installed these they simply shook loose and fell off.
the GM originals have pronounced raised teeth, allowing them to grip onto the splined posts really well. when i installed these, they firmly walked onto the post and required medium effort to dislodge again. the GMs also come with J hook design and can lock upward (with your hood up) just like the Dormans.

here's the full view of how they sit, the passenger and driver installed accordingly. the passenger sits a tad high, but when i rotated 1 spline, it was into the plastic cowl... i don't really care since they actually work.

driver side alignment with a 21" blade (this could actually fit a 22", but ymmv).

and the passenger side alignment with a 19" blade (this is like 1/8" away from the molding).
