Once you lose the rod you have NO brakes, I mean none. Booster fails, you can at least stand on it, you lose a brake line and either the front or back still work, you have the option/backup, the banjo/rod come apart and you have NOTHING, no option, no backup. Now I won't say that GM is perfect, but they do put a lot of time/effort into designing safe and reliable products.
