As far as the MSD box goes, it is an unknown variable, but I still have spark reliably. I'm sure it doesn't help in this application but the previous owner thought it did and I have no clue who that is, so I don't know what else he did or modified that may have required one. I'm frankly afraid to get rid of it because I don't know if it's a load bearing MSD box or not. I've bought some real basket case cars that had extremely important paperclip harness jumpers in them, and I've found it best to just leave it and only mess with it if it catches on fire.

Ignition timing is basic and necessary. You're just going to have to suck it up and make the effort to check it/adjust it... no matter what the ambient temperature may be! IMO, until you do so, checking/changing anything else is a waste of time.[This message has been edited by Patrick (edited 01-23-2024).]

you aren't wrong. It's gonna be closer to 50 later this week, I'll go fight with it then! Until then, does adjusting timing work the same way as it would stock? Unplug the connector, jump the aldl, and move the dizzy until -10? or is something weird now with the MSD box present?

What connector? (If you're referring to the IAC harness, that's not normally unplugged during ignition timing... but in your case might be necessary just to get the RPM within the correct range.)

If that's where it is now, no wonder the engine runs like crap. Look at the specs under your decklid, but I believe it's supposed to be +10°.

I wouldn't expect setting the base timing to be any different with the MSD box present, but I don't know for sure.[This message has been edited by Patrick (edited 01-23-2024).]

Isn't there a single pin connector I have to unplug? On my 89 camaro, same 2.8, you had to unplug a single pin connector near the firewall and jump the aldl. Called the EST wire.I guess the Fiero doesn't have that?

Nope, just short the correct pins on the ALDL
Also load bearing MSD box is the funniest thing I have heard this week
