Oil Gauge 87 gt (Page 3/3)

Assuming coolant system works right...
160°F T-stat only slows Oil Temp Warm Up because engine stays cold longer.
Using 10w or higher means thick to very thick oil and longer to flow right w/ 160°F T-stat but will reach op temp eventually in cold weather.

Most skip T-stat doesn't set Engine Op Temp just tries to set the lower limit.
T-stat is also a "Metered" opening and limits flow even when open full.

So most engine can reach the normal op temp, in Fiero ~ 200 to 220°F, while driving or rad fan is On for any reason.

Right without mentioning a new issue here is what I found today on the oil gauge.

With the key on - engine off the needle goes just over the red area but no oil light comes on - I took the gauge out and checked the bulb and all was good.
removed the plug from the sender and with some wire I grounded the tan wire from the plug so now with it pegged all the way over it dropped back to zero and the bulb came on - does this mean I have got a Bad sender unit ?
when I first installed this unit it seemed to work ok i,e starts at zero with the bulb on then whent the engine starts bulb goes out like it should.

As a side note after finishing for the day and thinking back to works done many years ago - I recall removing 2 tie wraps from around the C500 block/plugs and with the other issues arising this morning with different error codes I think the first job of the day tomorrow will be to check the ground cables from the ecu (I think its near the starter motor area) and the integrity of the c500 plug and hopefully find a solution.

Read my above posts again...
Put Ω meter on OP sender to see Ω engine off and if can w/ engine on too tells quick a bad sender.
need pin for tan wire, OP sender grounds thru the base and engine.

"New" senders can fail w/o warning. 88 included but won't leak oil fast and then engine has no oil like old type.

Do this next...
Find all "grounds" bolted or screwed to engine and car.
Take apart hardware and "grounds," clean/fix them, coat w/ silicone or permatex brake grease. either is plastic safe.

some highlights See my Cave, Wire Service

that can solve many weird problems.

Thanks Theogre - as an updated I grounded the tan (oil gauge) wire and the oil light came on and the needle went back to zero - so I think I have a bad sensor That didnt last long

So my next question on this topic is does anyone know of a quality sensor other than the one rock auto has here https://www.rockauto.com/en...9208&pt=4588&jsn=873

Many thanks for any help

Wells unit is only one listed...
Standard unit is old type because someone has wrong data.

Wells is old brand that's good.

Standard @ https://ecatalog.smpcorp.com/std/#/vehicles search by wells # and check Xref correct senders are
PS-245
PS-262
PS262T
PS245T
parts w/ T is "cheaper" w/ less warranty in this case 12mo

then if needed search RA etc for those numbers.
